The River Anker runs through Nuneaton and the centre used to flood, badly in 1932 and 1968, until a relief channel was built in 1976. Today a burst pipe, a fire or a storm is the more common reason a family has to move out.
Nuneaton is made of districts such as Attleborough, Chilvers Coton, Stockingford, Weddington, Camp Hill, Galley Common and Abbey Green. Families usually want to keep the same school and the same route to work while repairs go on.
Roads help: the A444 dual carriageway comes up from the south, the A47 heads to Hinckley and Leicester and the A4254 Eastern Relief Road skirts the centre. Stagecoach runs most local buses from its Newtown Road depot.
Insurers and loss adjusters book with us on the household's behalf. Each stay is invoiced on a pro-forma carrying the claim reference and paid before arrival; if the builders overrun, a new pro-forma extends it.
