Rugby is known the world over for its school, founded in 1567 with a bequest from Lawrence Sheriff, a local man who became grocer to Elizabeth I. Its pupils wrote down the first rules of the Rugby game in 1845. The Lawrence Sheriff School opened in 1878.
Pierre de Coubertin, who revived the Olympic Games, visited Rugby School several times in the late 19th century and named it as an inspiration.
The town has no university, so Rugby students head for Coventry University in the city centre or the University of Warwick on Coventry's south-west edge. Our nearest house to Coventry University is Stoke Lodge, next door to Stoke House, about a mile by road.
For a graduation day the house is the easy part: grandparents and cousins can stay together, breakfast can be cooked at home and the car stays parked free outside.
