Where the work is in Rugby

Three industries keep contractors busy around Rugby. The oldest is electrical engineering: the British Thomson-Houston and Willans & Robinson works of the 1900s passed to AEI, English Electric, GEC and then Alstom. GE Vernova still makes large motors and services steam turbines in the town.

Cement is the second. The Cemex plant at New Bilton, opened in 2000, has the largest cement kiln in Britain and can produce 1.8 million tonnes a year. Cemex has run its UK head office from Rugby since 2018.

Logistics is the third and the largest. With junction 1 of the M6 beside it, Rugby had a higher share of transport and storage businesses than any other part of the UK in 2021, at 17 per cent. DIRFT lies about four miles east of the town and Magna Park about seven and a half miles north, while new homes go up at Houlton and Cawston.

Our houses are let whole: a front door for the team, beds made up on arrival, a washing machine for site clothes and room for the vans. Humber Hub has off-road parking and an en-suite to every bedroom; the other three houses have free parking on the street. The contractor pays one pro-forma invoice before arrival, with its PO number on it.
