View propertyEvery rugby club owes the town a visit. The story of William Webb Ellis picking up the ball in 1823 is marked by his statue outside Rugby School, which has drawn visitors since England won the World Cup in 2003. The Webb Ellis Rugby Football Museum in the town centre still makes balls by hand in the traditional way.
William Butterfield designed most of the school's buildings, including the chapel of 1872 with its octagonal tower 138 feet tall. Rugby Art Gallery and Museum holds the Rugby Collection of 20th-century British art, among it works by L. S. Lowry, Stanley Spencer and Paula Rego.
