Warwick has three NHS sites: Warwick Hospital, the acute hospital for south Warwickshire; Leamington Spa Hospital beside the Warwick Gates estate; and St Michael's, the psychiatric unit that replaced the old Central Hospital.
The workhouse infirmary of the Warwick Union, built in 1848 on what is now Lakin Road, was the hospital's beginning. A new hospital was finished on the site in 1903 and the Aylesford Unit cancer centre opened in February 2010.
Much of the Warneford's work moved here when Leamington's old hospital closed in 1993, including the district's main maternity unit. Since 2023 every Chiltern train between Birmingham and London calls at Warwick station, a short walk from the wards.
