Daventry was a coaching town until the London and Birmingham Railway of 1838 took its trade; its population fell from 4,565 in 1841 to 3,516 in 1911 and the branch station closed to passengers in 1958.
It is now one of the largest towns in England without a railway station; Long Buckby, about four miles north-east, is the nearest. Stagecoach's D1 and D2 buses run from Daventry and Rugby to DIRFT.
For weekends there is Staverton Park Golf Club just outside town and the skate park on New Street Recreation Ground, opened in 2013.
