View propertyHillfields lies just north of Coventry city centre. Originally called Harnall, it became Coventry's first suburb in 1828, when the city grew beyond its walls.
By 1905 there were 20 motor manufacturers in Hillfields alone and in 1899 Coventry City Football Club built its stadium at Highfield Road here. Primrose Hill Park is part of the area and Sidney Stringer Academy is its secondary school.
During the Second World War 192 houses in Hillfields were destroyed or demolished and nearly 1,450 were seriously damaged. Thirteen tower blocks were built in the redevelopment of the 1960s and 1970s.
Coventry City played at Highfield Road from 1899 until 2005. It became the English league's first all-seater stadium and staged its last game on 30 April 2005, a 6-2 win over Derby County. The site was redeveloped for housing and the pitch was relaid with grass so local children could keep playing football there.
Highfield Road held 23,489 at the time of its closure. Demolition began in February 2006 and was finished by the end of the following month.
Highfield Road had one of the largest playing surfaces in the English leagues.
After the last match Coventry City moved to the Ricoh Arena at Foleshill, in the north of the city.
Both of our Coventry houses are close. Humber Hub in Lower Stoke has four en-suite bedrooms and free off-road parking; Sullivan Heights in Upper Stoke has three bedrooms and a private garden.
