Bedworth grew with its transport links: the Coventry Canal in 1789, the Coventry to Nuneaton railway in 1850 and the M6, just south of the town, in 1971. The warehouses and factories around junction 3 at Exhall followed.
Coal is long gone. Newdigate, the last colliery in Bedworth, closed in 1982 and Coventry Colliery on the edge of town in 1991. Mining here dates back to the 13th century and Huguenot weavers once settled in the town.
Work now comes from the Bayton Road estate, the town-centre offices and the logistics and retail parks along the A444.
