View propertyCoventry Airport opened in 1936 as Baginton Aerodrome and served as RAF Baginton in the Second World War; in 1982 Pope John Paul II said Mass there before a crowd of about 350,000. The last flights left on 9 May 2026 and the airport closed for good on 11 June 2026.
The site is becoming GreenPower Park, a £2.5 billion venture between Coventry City Council and Rigby Group. In April 2026 Warwick District Council gave detailed permission for seven manufacturing buildings, from 69,000 to 1.5 million sq ft and 4.8 million sq ft in all, adding to an outline consent of 2022; the partners talk of up to 6,000 jobs.
In September 2026 the council said it would seek a new hybrid permission so that advanced manufacturing, engineering and research can use the site as well as a gigafactory. A power upgrade is due in 2027: 30MVA at first, then 50MVA after 2030.
The UK Battery Industrialisation Centre is next door and the Midland Air Museum sits on the northern edge. Our nearest house to the site is Humber Hub, about 3 miles by road, with four en-suite bedrooms and off-road parking for site vans.
