Fen End is JLR's base for its SV division. The company lists SV's headquarters and staff functions there, alongside SV and VP engineering, Event Vehicle Operations and a test track, across 200 acres with 131 workshop bays.
The site began as RAF Honiley, an airbase that was once home to fighter squadrons. JLR bought it in September 2014, citing its location and a test track made from the old runway. Some 350 of its IT staff were already working from offices there.
A year later JLR planned to bring its Vehicle Operations team to the site: around 300 engineers who prepare and refine vehicles for global events and product launches. Before that, Prodrive had won permission for a motorsport campus on the land, a plan it dropped when Formula One changed.
Launch and event work runs to deadlines, with crews arriving for a few weeks to get a fleet ready. A furnished house booked for those weeks gives them a proper base with a kitchen and room to switch off.
