Wimpey built Wood End, Henley Green, Manor Farm and Deedmore for the city council in the 1950s and 1960s. In 2001 the council homes moved to the Whitefriars housing association. The same year the area began a decade of New Deal for Communities funding.
That £54 million programme, which ran to 2011, built a leisure and community centre, two schools and the Moat House Business Centre.
The rebuilding since then carries the Spirit Quarters name: a £360 million housing scheme expected to bring more than 3,300 homes in the longer term, according to the Coventry Society. Five applications for the former WEHM land on Deedmore Road reached the council's register between March 2025 and April 2026.
