British Timken opened a bearing factory at Duston in 1941 as a wartime shadow factory. It employed more than 4,000 people at its peak and trained generations of engineering apprentices before closing in 2002.
Distribution and finance now lead: Avon, Barclaycard, Travis Perkins, Coca-Cola, Panasonic, National Grid, Texas Instruments and Simply Business all employ people in the town. Carlsberg has brewed there since 1974.
Northampton has kept growing since it became a New Town in 1968; the University of Northampton moved to a £330 million Waterside campus by the Nene in 2018. Junctions 15, 15a and 16 of the M1 serve the town.
Our homes are in Coventry, which suits a crew splitting a contract between Northamptonshire and the West Midlands or working at DIRFT or in Rugby. Humber Hub, our nearest house, is about 32 miles by road from Northampton.
