Harborne is a Victorian suburb about three miles south-west of Birmingham city centre, west of Edgbaston, north of Selly Oak and east of Quinton. It was historically in Staffordshire.

St Peter's Church dates from Anglo-Saxon times and its tower was rebuilt in the 14th century. Harborne's railway station opened in 1874 and closed to passengers in 1934. The old trackbed is now the Harborne Walkway, a two-mile nature walk.

Harborne is a ward in the Birmingham Edgbaston parliamentary constituency, with 23,001 residents at the 2011 census. The Bearwood and Warley areas of Sandwell lie to the north.

Edgbaston, to the east, is home to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, which opened in June 2010 with 1,215 beds and is a major trauma centre. The hospital is very close to the University of Birmingham.

Birmingham city centre is about 11 miles by road from the house, with Harborne on the way in from the Black Country side of the city.

The Harborne line ran for just under two and a half miles from Harborne into the centre of Birmingham, joining the Stour Valley Line at Monument Lane Junction. It closed completely on 4 November 1963 and its track bed is now the shared-use Harborne Walkway.

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital is also home to the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine, which treats injured service men and women from conflict zones.

Harborne is described as an affluent Victorian suburb with a large stock of housing.
