What is being built around Merry Hill

The biggest job is the second phase of the Wednesbury to Brierley Hill Metro extension, which the Midland Metro Alliance calls the largest tramway extension being delivered anywhere in the UK. Utility diversions around Level Street began in spring 2025, main tram construction followed and trams are due at Merry Hill in 2028, with new stops at Cinder Bank and Pedmore Road.

The Alliance brings together the West Midlands Combined Authority, Egis, Tony Gee, Pell Frischmann and Colas Rail, with Colas Ltd, Barhale, Bouygues UK and Auctus Management Group as sub-alliance partners. Around it, Brierley Hill's town centre has had High Street and heritage works and the DY5 enterprise zone continues to bring new offices and industrial space to the Waterfront and nearby sites.

The Merry Hill Lounge: twin bedroom

Why a whole house works for a crew

The Merry Hill Lounge has four bedrooms and a sofa bed for up to 10 guests, two bathrooms, a full kitchen and a washer dryer. Free off-road parking takes vans as well as cars, so tools and vehicles stay at the house. Broadband runs at 500 Mb for job sheets, video calls and evening streaming. There is a private back garden too.

One house means one booking, one set of arrival details and one invoice, instead of a block of hotel rooms.

Room by room

Each of the four bedrooms can be made up as a king-size bed or as singles. The first bedroom can take three singles. Tell us the set-up you need when you book; for bookings made within 48 hours of arrival the layout cannot be guaranteed. Two bathrooms come with fresh towels and toiletries.

The kitchen has an oven, a gas hob, a microwave, a fridge freezer, a kettle, a toaster and a coffee machine. The living room has a 55-inch Smart TV and three of the bedrooms have 43-inch Smart TVs. A washer dryer, an iron, an ironing board and a clothes airer take care of work clothes on a long job.

Getting to sites

From the house, Merry Hill and the Waterfront are each about 2 miles by road, Stourbridge town centre about 3 miles, Russells Hall Hospital about 4 miles and Dudley and Halesowen town centres about 4 miles. Cradley Heath station is under a mile from the house, with trains to Birmingham Snow Hill and Moor Street, Stourbridge Junction and Worcester.

Further afield and after work

From the house, Wolverhampton city centre is about 10 miles by road and Birmingham city centre about 11 miles. Birmingham Airport is about 29 miles by road from the house.

For evenings off, Merry Hill has a leisure quarter with Hollywood Bowl, the Eat Central food court and a 10-screen Odeon on its retail park, while the Waterfront has bars and restaurants around the marina.
